A modern homage to the the avionics of the 1960′s, the Joseph Abboud Fall 2013 Collection was a luxurious focus on the forward movement of technology. Inspired by American ingenuity and its influence of the future, creative director Bernardo Rojo focused his collection on clean lines, interesting fabric combinations, and deep, bold colors. Shown earlier this season at PItti in Florence, the new Joseph Abboud Red Label has a more daring approach to menswear. Slimmer fit pants with zippers and intricate knee detailing, neoprene tops, and sharply cut leathers bring attention to the man out to make a statement. While the collection is much more daring, the precision in detailing and tailoring makes it a wearable collection that each Joseph Abboud man can find a look to covet.

Sleek and geometric, the Alejandro Ingelmo Fall 2013 Collection brought an artistic view to footwear and accessories for men and women. The set, including a light installation designed by Ivan Navarro and custom neon light boxes created by Alejandro Ingelmo selected the innovative approach of Ingelmo’s designs. Patent leather loafers, reflective sneakers, and the signature white sole were standouts, while glitter, wings, and high heels brought sex appeal to the women’s collections.

Ingelmo’s collection also included a set of bags; in a black and white palette, the silhouettes of the bags were simple and sharp; making it a unisex choice for the fashion forward.

Inspired by 1920′s Berlin and German Expressionist film, the Robert Geller Fall 2013 Collection presented a modern take on an era that can be as dark as it was golden. A collection full of drama and romance, it was styled to perfection, making it a wearable, daring dream for men of style substance. Twills, polyurethane tweeds and pigment-dyed knits were highlighted fabric features, where the color palette gave us hues of grey and the ever popular oxblood. Quilted shorts, oxblood leather belts, and bordeaux trousers were standout pieces, with necessary mention of the head a hand accessories.

The oversized black woolen hats in the collection drew an exaggerated parallel to the imagery found in Dr. Caligari’s films of the 1920′s, and you can’t talk about 1920′s expressionist film without depicting it in back and white. This was perfectly depicted with the black and white leather gloves, printed in both stripes and polka dots. The gloves, a very popular piece backstage, will surely do well in market – just like the entire collection.

It’s hard to be unique as a man in Hollywood on the Red Carpet. With tuxedos as the general uniform, one has to exude an inward sense of style that accentuates their outward look. Luckily, Hollywood is full of men that have perfected this task, as shown at tonight’s 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

While black is the most used color for tuxedos, some of Hollywood’s men used texture to set themselves apart from others. Robert Downey Jr. presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Jodie Foster in a well-tailored velvet tuxedo.

Going for a three-piece look was also a popular move, as Ben Affleck and Sacha Baron Cohen added a vest to their formal looks.

Bradley Cooper and Jon Hamm opted for adding the formal hardware to their looks, while Best Dressed gents George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Les Miserables’ Hugh Jackman kept their buttons plain for a simple, clean look.

Skyfall’s Daniel Craig brought his character to life while wearing his sunglasses on the Red Carpet; a smooth addition to the look that would clearly be removed once entering the venue, of course.

One common denominator for each of the Best Dressed men was the bow tie. Each Hollywood beau completed their looks with the dapper touch of the small, yet necessary accessory.

Skincare is an important part of a man’s routine, especially as the winter elements approach us. This season, we look to the experts from Mënaji to give us an inside look from their backstage prep of the models for Duckie Brown and Perry Ellis by Duckie Brown for our own daily regimen. Michele Probst, celebrity makeup artist, and President and founder of Mënaji Worldwide, takes us backstage and tells us how we can perfect the same looks at home!

KENTON: What was the direction of the looks from each show?
Mënaji: We did 2 shows this year. For Duckie Brown, we collaborated with the amazing Makeup Artist Ralph Siciliano to create a unique look. The face was a clean, matte finish highlighting cheek bones and strong jaw lines. There was a black and white flower collar stencil/tattoo on the neck and the hand. This was very, cool, fresh and fashion forward.

For Perry Ellis by Duckie Brown, it was more about lifestyle. This tailored yacht set look called for healthy, polished looking skin. The face was dewy with a nice sunkissed glow and sheen on the lip.

KENTON: Describe the regimen you used for the models?
Mënaji: If possible, we like to try and get our skincare to the models before the day of the show. Even models get the uninvited “oopsies” that pop up now and then. Clean, healthy skin is the easiest to work with. Mënaji’s Shower Polishing Scrub; Hydrator; Masque & Lip Agent are must-haves. We keep our “hero” product, 911 Eye Repair, backstage in ice to knock out last minute dark, puffy, tired looking eyes.

KENTON: What was the key product you used backstage to complete the looks?
Mënaji: For the first show the star was the Anti-Shine High-Def powders. They are skin tones, so it just blends evenly w/ the skin creating a clean, matte finish. For the dewy look of the second show, it was the Hydrator all the way. It is so nourishing with hylaronic acid and grapefruit. The skin practically shines.

KENTON: How can men at home can do the same thing in their bathroom?
Mënaji: It’s so easy! Men are spending in the US alone, 33 Billion on their appearance. There are no more excuses for men not to take care of their skin.
They can buy on line at Menaji.com or Nordstrom.com and or call toll free @ 1.800.551.5067 x 302. Guys, the first thing people look at is your face. Take it seriously!!

KENTON: With the Fall in full swing and Winter approaching us, what products are essential for protection in cold weather?
Mënaji: The winter conditions indoors and outdoors can be rough on your skin. Winter sun UVA rays are harsh and age the skin. Remember the basics: Clean, Hydrate, Protect and Nourish. It is important to have a good exfoliate with natural ingredients to help remove excess and dead skin. Moisturize your skin to repair the dryness. And finally, don’t forget your lips; a lip balm of SPF 15 is best.

The eighties were brought back to life with KAELEN Spring 2013. Inspired by Jean Paul Goude’s work with fashion icon Grace Jones, designer Kaelen Haworth created a collection strong in structure, but with a subtle softness that made her aesthetic unique. The conflict of strength with soft were seen throughout the collection, as the mainly black and white color scheme were invited with buttery yellows, pinks and nudes. Peplums were a major theme into the collection as well, uniquely constructed in neoprene, adding another current, modern take to an eighties classic.

Katya Leonovich continues her success as artist and designer for her Spring 2013 Collection, demonstrating the true art in fashion. This season, Leonovich incorporated her studio paintings with draping and chiffon to create a softer element to whats found on her canvas. A light palette of grey, green and beige were themed throughout, while leathers and metallics brought edge to the collection.

Her finale pieces, two laser cut hand painted leather evening gowns, featured to very special guests. The heads of President Obama and republican candidate Mitt Romney were on each dress, ending the show with a political element that’s definitely a trend for this time of year. When asked about her inspiration to feature the candidates on her looks, Katya says “I see their faces every morning in the newspaper when I have my coffee, so I thought why not? Let’s say: which dress will win?”

The Plaza Hotel. The Edwaradian Room. Angelo Galasso. Three indications of luxury, class, and style. The Italian clothier and creator of the Polso Orologio shirt has brought his impeccable sense of style to the Plaza, opening his new store on the eve of New York Fashion Week. From the grand entrance into the flagship, you knew you were going to experience a night of glamour; but instead of sequins and gowns, you got embroidered jackets and tastefully tailored suits. Angelo Galasso brings a masculine element of luxury that injects risks into classic menswear. Galasso, opening his fourth store, said that he was looking for a particular place that had the same feel of his collection; being more of a “destination than a location.” Like his locations in Moscow, Milan, and London each store is styled in the same way; a central location; having “toys for boys,” as Galasso explains.

During the store opening, accompanied by a wonderful musical performance by ELEW and the tremendous energy by the Edwardian room, the new collection from Angelo Galasso was presented, being described by the designer as “Tradition in Evolution.” Complete with suits and separates that could transition from professional to formal affairs with ease, these looks are flashy, yet pleasantly tasteful, and you can see the fearless direction that Galasso takes with menswear. When asked about the essentials each man must have, Galasso stated that ”men who like to dress need to take more risks. We spend a lot of time thinking about what others think about us, and we should take pride in our appearance.”
