Barneys To Release “The Electric Holiday” In Collaboration With Disney
I can’t even handle this news right now. WWD is reporting that Barneys New York will be collaborating with Disney for a special holiday store, known as “The Electric Holiday.” This is actually the best news I’ve heard in a while, because I obsess over both of these companies. Barneys is the happiest place on earth for an adult with a credit card, and Disney is the happiest place on earth in general.
The big revealing will come on November 14th, as the store unveils a three-dimensional electric light show. The collaboration will also feature a special short art film that turns some of Disney’s favorite characters into high fashion models and some of fashions big stars into Disney characters. We’d love to see Anna Wintour as a Disney character! However, Goofy in Balmain is my favorite, while Minnie Mouse is in Lanvin and Daisy Duck is wearing Dolce & Gabbana.
Inspiration was pulled from Disney’s Electric Parade and the flashing of bulbs during fashion shows. Barneys worked very closely to make sure this was as relevant to the fashion world as possible. Creative Director Dennis Freedman said “The world of the Paris fashion shows, of fashion, of people in fashion, of the rituals, all of the idiosyncrasies. The important thing to me was always that it had to be authentic. It really had to hit the nail on the head in every detail.”
Barneys will also be donating 25% of sales at Electric Holiday to a charity (named at a later date) in their crusade to bring as much holiday joy as possible. All I know, is that I just started a countdown till November 14th.
