UPDATED: Christopher Kane for Balenciaga?

In what is no doubt a sudden announcement, it has been revealed that the Scottish born, Central St. Martins graduate, and London Fashion Week staple, Christopher Kane, has been appointed as the Creative Director for Balenciaga. Kane, who designs for both his own label and Versus Versace alongside Donatella Versace, has been one of fashion’s most innovative and most beloved British designers for many years, and his young and edgy, but still sophisticated, designs have been key in shaping British fashion in recent years.

Kane’s appointment comes after Nicolas Ghesquiere and Balenciaga announced his departure at the end of November after 15 years of service to the brand. Ghesquiere has been credited with revolutionizing the Balenciaga brand during his tenure, and whilst rumours fly about what he’ll be doing after leaving, we’re sure that Christopher will no doubt bring his own edgy designs to the brand that has always been on editors’ – and buyers’ – lips for years.

UPDATE: In an official statement, a representative for Christopher Kane has told WWD, “Rumors surrounding Christopher Kane’s appointment as creative director of Balenciaga are unfounded.” So for now, Balenciaga is still without a creative/artistic director, but do you think they’re just stalling an inevitable announcement?
