Dean and Dan Caten of DSQUARED² really went balls to the wall for their Spring 2013 collection, which was to be expected. They’ve got everything from leopard print accents, bursts of neon pink and orange, a healthy mix of denim, leather upon leather and it’s all tied together in a tailored look. You can’t leave out the statement necklaces and shin-guarded combat boots though because they are a “look” all on its own.

If you were to take away all the excess you would have a strong tailored collection suitable for a wide range of customers. That’s not DSQUARED² though, they don’t want simple. They want out of this world, look at me and know who I’m wearing and shut up when you recognize. You can’t hate them for that, because it’s a damn good idea. But I’ll be damned if you don’t realize that some of these pieces are on another level of craftsmanship — it’s just for a different customer.

You break rules in fashion, that’s what you do. We’d be at a stand-still if we all just did the same thing as last season. If it wasn’t for brands like DSQUARED² fashion would be a snooze fest.

It's more than fashion.
