History & Design

The Hôtel Fouquet ’s Barrière officially opened their doors to the public in Fall 2006, but began as an offshoot of the legendary Parisian landmark, Le Fouquet’s restaurant; the hotel’s roots are grounded with Fouquet’s century-long celebrity and glamour in French dining. At the heart of the Champs-Elysées, the legendary Fouquet’s restaurant has been linked to the magical world of cinema for decades. In 1990, Le Fouquet’s restaurant became a historical monument and was thus officially listed as a French cultural shrine.

The Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière is the only luxury hotel in Paris owned and operated by a French family, the Lucien Barrière Group, and prides itself on incorporating a genuine French philosophy into its services and establishment. For Fouquet’s Barriere’s construction, the Lucien Barrière Group even comissioned the Parisian architect, Édouard François, to create a magnificent and luxurious design, which would pay tribute to the classical heritage of 19th-century Paris but would also bring the hotel into the 21st century. Fouquet’s Barrière has achieved this goal by mimicking nature and French sensualism: from top to bottom, the entire hotel is decorated in a palette of rich colours, curved walls, thick-floral carpets, gold-leafed arches and columns. Velvet, damask, sharkskin, and embroidered chocolate coloured leather are also some of the unique materials that this urban retreat dons.

Dignified Luxury©

Hôtel Fouquet’s Barriere is like a contemporary palace- with a fundamental focus on sustainable development issues, it cedes nothing in terms of comfort for its guests. The management strictly adheres to its philosophy of “dignified luxury” ©, as the hotel offers the possibility of living luxuriously while maintaining a balanced harmony with nature.

Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière is the only Parisian hotel to be triple certified: ISO 9001 for quality service, ISO 14001 for its environmental commitment, and SA 8000 for its social responsibility. It is clear how Fouquet’s Barriere maintains its motto of “dignified luxury and some of the establishment’s concrete, “green”actions include:

• using all LED lightbulbs indoors and outdoors
• sorting, wasting, and recycling all organic refuse
• giving priority to locally grown organic produce and fair trade products

All third-parties involved in supplying products for the hotel must also sign an ethical charter, which guarantees their involvement in the hotel’s philosophy of “dignified luxury” ©. Fouqet’s Barriere is strongly committed to ecology, which shows in its selection for its complimentary ranges of beauty care products available for its guests. Inside, the hotel’s U Spa offers two lines: the Sensaï (Kanebo International) treatment range and the Cinq Mondes treatment range, which excludes the use of petrochemicals, silicones or parabens, and adheres to a strict laboratory charter. Both of the brands’ commitment to sustainable development is on par with the business values upheld by Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière.

For more eco-friendly transportation services, Fouquet’s Barriere offers rechargable, e-solex electric bikes and two, Lexus 600h hybrid limousines available to guests. For convenience purposes to clients, Fouquet’s Barriere is further equipped with an electric terminal with devices for recharging electric batteries for Telsa Roadsters.

In addition, the hotel also boasts a wealth of technology aimed at advancing its environmentally “green” goals, while maintaining itself also as a top-security structure. With regards to the security and protection of their guests, behind the scenes of Fouquet’s Barriere is one of the hotel’s most zealously guarded secrets: a winding network of automatic doors, hidden staircases, elevators, and wide corridors. Fouqet’s Barriere’s sense of responsibility also extends to the social sphere, as the hotel supports four ongoing non-profit projects:

1. The Chameleon Association, which helps girls from the Philippines who are victims of sexual abuse.

2. Sarah, an association that provides educational support and recreation to children and adolescents with autism.

3. Harvest Fouquet’s Barrière created in 2009, produces an annual crop auction to fund the reforestation of the Landes (a forest in France) and biodiversity research of the area.

4. Suburbs without borders, an association which helps children and young adults in difficult situations by providing them with employment and educational opportunites both in and out of the hotel.

Overall, the hotel does not overlook any aspect of available services to clients, and is a top contender in the hotel world by leading from example. Fouquet’s Barriere has a rich history and continues to evolve to meet environmental, ethical, and social standards across the globe today- a strong combination for Fouquet’s Barriere, which exudes a natural French sensualism with its philosophy of dignified luxury ©.
