When Jason Wu first entered the fashion scene in 2006, the industry quickly took notice of his “old world couture” approach to fashion design. In 2008, Wu was chosen as a finalist in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and in the following year he gained more recognition after dressing The First Lady, Michelle Obama in a custom gown for the Inaugural Ball. In 2010, Wu received the Swarovski Award for Womenswear by the CFDA, and just one year later he was nominated for the same award in the Accessory Design category.

Since the company’s launch in 2006, the Jason Wu brand has grown to include handbags, footwear, and eyewear as well as two beauty and cosmetics collaborations with Creative Nail Design and Shiseido. Over 85% of the Jason Wu collection is produced in New York City’s garment district, and his designs are currently sold in more fifty luxury department stores and boutiques throughout the United States and the U.K.

With all the success and accolades the designer has received over the last six years, it seems only natural that he would be now entering into the world of fragrance. In collaboration with luxury fragrance manufacturer NEST Fragrances, just last week the designer announced the launch of his luxury scented candle entitled “Orchid Rain”. The fragrance launch was held at the beautiful townhouse of Laura Slatkin, founder and CEO of NEST Fragrances and some of the most notable names and faces in the fashion industry were in attendance. The signature scent, designed by legendary perfumer Christophe Laudamiel is a combination of white orchid pear, pomegranate and goji berry with hints of birchwood, pink pepper and coconut. Florals happen to be a major inspiration for Wu’s creations and when asked about his intentions, he stated that he wanted to create a “floral scent that would reflect [his] feminine design aesthetic.” The candle comes beautifully packaged in a custom-made porcelain container adorned with the Jason Wu signature logo and gold plated lid, consistent with the quality of his high-end designs.

With each new product launch Jason Wu continues to grasp the attention of the fashion world clearly letting us know that he is here to stay and has a lot more to say, and with New York Fashion Week just around the corner we cannot wait to see what’s next.

The Orchid Rain candle will be available at Neiman Marcus, NeimanMarcus.com, Bergdorf Goodman, BergdorfGoodman.com, and select luxury boutiques in April 2012.

It's more than fashion.
