Jusil Carroll Wins Supima Design Competition
Jusil Carroll, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology took home the $10,000 prize at the Supima Design Competition runway show on Day 1 of Mecedes-Benz Fashion Week. Hosted by celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, the Supima show featured the collections of eight talented emerging designers from Pratt Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, Savannah College of Art and Design and Fashion Institute of Technology.
Each school nominated two of its top graduating seniors as finalists to be judged by the panel made up of: Kevin Harter, Buxton Midyette, Nicole Miller, Coco Rocha, Charlotte Ronson and Alexandra Wilkis Wilson.
In May of 2011, each of the show’s eight designers was assigned a faculty mentor, provided fabric from Supima’s most prestigious fabric mills, and asked to create capsule collections of women’s eveningwear that capitalized on the softness, strength, and luster characteristic of Supima Cotton.
Winner Jusil Carroll said of her inspiration: “I was inspired by ‘The Blair Witch Project’ . . . I love the idea that each person interprets the witch differently and all they are left with is a sense of mystery and thrill.” At FIT, her faculty mentor for the Supima Design Competition was Lisa Donofrio.
