Martin Lim Wins Mercedes-Benz Start Up 2011 National Final
One of the most anticipated runway shows at LG Fashion Week this season was the ultra-competitive Mercedes-Benz Start Up 2011 National Final, setting the spotlight on five individually unique designers representing the best of Canadian fashion. Cassie Dee, Martin Lim, Travis Taddeo, Triarchy, and UNTTLD were given this opportunity, sponsored by a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and the Fashion Design Council of Canada, to showcase their spring 2012 collections among a panel of judges, including Canadian supermodel Jessica Stam.
Each designer-turned-finalist was carefully chosen via a quest for emerging Canadian talent that spanned nationwide, participating in semifinal competitions in both Vancouver and Montreal. As a result, Cassie Dee and Triarchy were discovered in Vancouver, while Martin Lim, Travis Taddeo and UNTTLD were based in Montreal. Meanwhile, here in Toronto, the fabulous five anxiously waited as their spring looks hit the runway for the final time before announcing the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Startup winner.
The anticipation ended for Martin Lim as his name was announced directly following the show. His collection rendered frequent shades of neon purples and pinks over silky fabric that flowed naturally; it oozed a sense of welcoming and embracement of spring pride with confident colors that were striking and styles that were tasteful yet fearless.
Martin Lim receives an unrivaled compensation package, which includes additional mentorship from industry professionals, an editorial spread in FASHION Magazine and last but not least, a large-scale and expenses-paid runway show for the next season (March 2012) to showcase their fall 2012 collection.
Congratulations Martin Lim on a commendable achievement!
