MBFW Miami Swim Kicks Off With a Dragon
Everyone knows it’s hot in Miami during the summer but Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim has just cranked the heat up even more. The Kickoff with Aussie Swim designer and Whale lover Lisa Blue left the bar very high for the rest of the Surf and Swim pack. She started off with a Tweetup at the gorgeous Sky Bar Pool at the Shore Club on Miami Beach. Bloggers were treated to icy pitchers of Blue Whale’s Tale drinks and snacks under the Pool Bar Cabana. Blue awning stripe bags with the Lisa Blue Swim logo and Whale’s Tale bracelets were just some of the goodies. Then the Kickoff Fashion Show for the whole week was The Event to be at. This was no mere Fashion Show. Her collection presented “Year of the Dragon” along with her Call of the Whale collections. The stately Blue and Grecian White swimwear came out to ethereal music evoking glamour and sophistication. Then, the lights dimmed and caliente hit the runway. Ruffles and Flamingo dancers along with lively Latin music had everyone dancing in their seats. The swimwear was Pin-up Girl frilly some with retro high waists and 40s travel postcard prints. Just when it didn’t seem it could get any better, drums started beating and in the black light a full Oriental Dragon in spectacular neon colors appeared held aloft by dragon dancers. The show finished with Lisa’s tribute to the Oceanic cultures with fantastic headdresses paired with sleek swimwear embroidered with the dragon theme.
The Raleigh Hotel pool became the place to be for the night as Lisa Blue Swim hosted the Kick off Party where all the designers met and mingled. And this was only Day One!
