When we originally reported last week that Narciso Rodriguez would be doing a collection for Kohl’s we were a little hesitant. After all we all know the Kohl’s customer, no offense to anyone who shops at Kohl’s, but they are usually not the most fashion forward. However, we’re quite excited about this upcoming collaboration now that we know a little bit more of how it came about.

WWD is reporting that the concept was to send each designer to a city of their choice to gain inspiration for the month-long capsule collection. Rodriguez picked Istanbul for his city of choice and based his collection around it. Rodriguez spoke about his trip in a recent interview “It was a really interesting idea to travel somewhere you had never been to before, and get your inspiration from a place that wouldn’t normally be in your comfort zone, bring that back and turn it into a collection. I was completely inspired by the people, the city and all the different cultures.”

The collection will feature outerwear, tops, dresses and knits with a range of $30 to $150. Rodriguez was also quoted saying “A designer’s mission is to dress as many people as possible.” Which he’ll certainly be doing with this new Kohl’s collection. We’re liking the pops of color and the whole monochromatic feel of everything.

It is also suggested that Derek Lam will be second designer in the Design Nation program, however Kohl’s and LF USA declined to comment.
