Prada Fall 2013

Prada Fall 2013

Mrs. Prada has been a fixture in the fashion scene for as long as anyone can remember – and she’s been the matriarch of Italian fashion for much more than just that. And whilst she normally creates an exuberant fantasy for her woman – spring’s Japonism still fresh in everyone’s minds thanks to those sky-high sandals – it seemed as if Miuccia was bringing us back in time to remind us of what she does best. And that’s create clothes.

The Prada woman wasn’t anything, this season – in fact, the Prada woman was just a Prada woman. But therein lies who she is – Prada is strength, but fragility at the right times; sexy, but not outlandishly so; a woman, not a girl. And thus is what Miuccia sent out for us to fawn over – the silhouettes were so simply understated, the styling so perfectly undone, that you got to focus on what was important here – the clothing. No gimmicks, no speculation – Prada was bringing us back in time, a time where clothes were clothes, and not some sort of speculative metaphor for what the designer wanted a woman to be. And needless to say, every woman will be a Prada woman next season – because there’s no choice in the matter.
