Rising Star Laura Siegel Debuts Collection at Toronto LG Fashion Week
Debuting her first ever collection for retail, Laura Siegel takes us on a maritime tale for spring 2012. Inspired by her experiences abroad, she created a globally minded collection that combines her creative talents with sustaining culture and craft.
Designed with sustainable fashion in mind, Laura Siegel’s spring 2012 collection is for women with a sense of social awareness. In a quest to gain insight into ethical design methods, Laura travelled throughout Asia, meeting several skilled artisans in villages, who she now employs for her creations. Pieces are made in partnership with these artisans, enabling traditional dyers, embroiderers, and block-printers to practice their craft and thrive in their communities.
“For me, the brand is about preserving people’s livelihoods, crafts and cultures by being environmentally and socially conscious with every decision,” Siegel says.
Fabrics are relaxed, allowing for free movement and comfort, yet cuts create sophisticated silhouettes. All-natural dyes and materials are used in the Laura Siegel’s collection, meant to evolve over time, becoming more individual and unique with each wear.
Just 23 years old, the Parsons The New School for Design and Central Saint Martins graduate is already garnering the attention of industry leaders. Her standout senior collection at Parsons was sold exclusively at Debut boutique in New York and was on display at Saks Fifth Avenue. Winner of the Rising Star Award at Vancouver Fashion Week, there is no doubt that Laura Siegel is making a name for herself.
