Spring Fever: 10 Women’s Trends for Spring 2011

1. Deep in the Trenches
Somewhere between the melting snow and the first blade of grass there are a lot of raindrops. One of the main advantages of all that rain is to button up a row of buttons and tie the waist of a stylish little Trench Coat. This year, so many designers added trenches to their Spring lines that you may just have to get more than one!

2. Brave Bold Color
Breathe a sigh of relief and open it up like a new box of markers. Color is back! It isn’t that you forgot what color looked like, it’s just that when the sun shines, it reminds you how much you love bright blue skies, grape Popsicles, red birthday balloons, masses of yellow daffodils and dripping orange sunsets. Go ahead color your world with some bold.

3. Fancy, Frilly Florals
With one collective annual nod, designers one and all usher in florals for Spring. But this year you might be pleasantly surprised at just what is coming up: roses!

4. Ballerina Inspired
Nearly every little girl (or her mother) dreams of pink satin, lace-up ballerina slippers and yards of gathered tulle. Black Swan aside, many designers hit the Spring runways in a flurry of tutus, feathered romance, and breathless sighs.

5. Shift it into Neutral
Just as color splashed through the Spring trends, neutrals in all their understated, demurely blushing innocence have made a statement as well. However, quiet and gentle the trend may be, it spells freshness and raw romance.

6. Sailor Style
Take the military trend, sprinkle it with sunshine and mix in some spring breezes and you have Nautical. From the shipwreck of damsels of Christian Dior to the petal pusher whimsy of Betsey Johnson, sailor girls are making waves this Spring and the trend is spiffy, as a row of brass buttons.

7. Racy Lacy
From the attics of two generations ago has come a nostalgia for purity and innocence in ways we have not seen for many seasons. Laser cut, hand-worked, crocheted, knotted, lace is a major trend for Spring. We want romance back and we will tuck a lace edge in our shoes if we must!

8. Sheer Delight
There is something so attractively sexy about the way sheer fabrics brush our legs and bare arms and flit about in flouncy little flirty ways when we walk in Spring sunshine. Like a first kiss we dare not forget, sheers are a must for spring.

9. Short and Sweet
While it certainly is not a new trend to wiggle into a pair of shorts with the first ray of sunshine, this year shorts are making an appearance in the office with the new Short Suit. Maybe that office better be in a nice sunny location like, say, Belize. We can dream.

10. The Wonderful World of Wedges
Ever felt like you are between a rock and a hard place? Take a wedge to it. The most comfortable shoes just got voted Miss Most Popular. Seriously. Woven, platform, shiny, laced up and ready to roll. Yeah, you can Rock That!
