Set in the Grand Banking Hall at the One King West Hotel, there was a distinct grandeur and elegance that set the tone for the Fall 2013 Lucian Matis collection long before the show began. As the first ivory and black look took to the runway, there was no doubt that Lucian’s work would live up to the grandeur of the venue.

Of the collection, Lucian said: “This season I wanted to focus on the simplicity of the silhouette rather than the details.” In doing so, the collection was based on a monochromatic color scheme which allowed Matis to “emphasis the shape of the garments from an architectural methodology with boxy geometric shapes.” The collection was most definitely a play on shapes, as indicated, but also evoked a refined elegance and boasted impossibly chic silhouettes.

There was also a playful elegance to the collection, brought to life with fur, felts, wool, and silk. Fashion forward in its styling, the show was an editorial delight, but with the distinct ability to be broken down for everyday wear-ability. Lucian’s latest collection further proves the designer’s talent and his ability to translate inspiration into reality; a talent that leaves us anxiously awaiting his next work.

The Fall 2013 collection from Sid Neigum opened with a refreshing series of winter white looks, making a clean and vibrant statement for fall. Styled with juxtaposing silhouettes and fabrics, the looks set the tone for the remainder of the collection.

The theme for the collection was an “optimistic post-apocalypse” with inspiration from Sid Neigum’s “… childhood in rural Western Canada, with inspiration from the late 80′s and 90′s.” This is seen throughout the silhouettes which play on hard vs soft, and over-sized vs structured. The color pallet shifts from white, to all black everything, to a cool grey, and finishes with a soft floral and mixing of greens.

From more relaxed bohemian-inspired silhouettes paired with ultra-cool leather jackets, to perfectly tailored pantsuits, the collection boasts huge talent and an exciting look for fall. Promising unique looks for any occasion, Sid will be hard-pressed to find a woman who can’t relate in some way to this collection.

In true Missoni fashion, the Fall 2013 Collection exuded comfort and cozy-ness. However this season that aesthetic was taken a step further with the textures and silhouettes evoking a very pajama-like style. Over-sized coats were cut in various silhouettes, each with a slight bathrobe feel, while silky harem pants could double as evening lounge-wear. Furthering this theme was the styling of the show, which saw coats worn off-the-shoulder and tied at the waist, while paired with figure-hugging, slinky dresses.

Complimenting the new silhouettes this season was Missoni’s new take on colour. Opting for a more neutral palette instead of focusing on their signature bold zig-zags gave a softer, more relaxed feeling to the collection, which fared well with the unstructured and float-y look of the pieces. Edgier elements were brought in with fish nets and booties, both of which did a great job in showing off the versatility of the pieces.

The Robert Cavalli Fall 2013 collection gave us full-on glamour (naturally), but in a slightly more refined way than we’re used to seeing. Over-sized furs, streamlined silhouettes, and soft prints took center stage, which brought us a collection that boasts just enough flash without leaving the chic behind.

Animal print may have been a synonym for Roberto Cavalli in the past, but this season took us in a new direction. Black and white prints opened the show, followed by varying shades of blue, maroon, red and black; each of which were defined by a mix of textures and embellishments. Leather, tweed, and metallic studs were the main focus on a number of shift dresses, skirt suits, and evening gowns, while a metallic gold print contrasted beautifully against a number of black separates.

As a whole, the collection was a more understated approach to opulence and one that showed beautifully. Without sacrificing the no-holds-barred approach to glamour that we look for in a Cavalli collection, Roberto gave us a new take on his aesthetic and we’re looking forward to where he takes us next.

This season brings boots to the forefront with new trends and styles to match. Here is KENTON’s list of cool boots for men:

The Dapper Boot
Thanks to Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, and The Hour, the dapper trend is back and here for a while, which isn’t a bad thing especially if you are in need of boots. These styles may not be your every day boots, but they are certainly a must-have for your wardrobe. Because these boots tend to have a subtle impression on first glance, go big with color and fine tailoring in the rest upper part of your look.

1. J. D. Fisk “Lennon”
2. Ted Baker London P”oallu”
3. Levi’s Shoes “Wild”
4. Aldo “Eldringhoff”
5. Aldo “Licea”

The Classic Boot
These boots are functional and never go out of style, hence “classic”. One in every color is absolutely necessary and can practically be worn with anything. Depending on the grain of the boot, a basic leather jacket may be just the perfect finishing touch.

1. J.D. Fisk “Darren”
2. Rush by Gordon Rush “Orion”
3. Giorgio Brutini “21021”

The Wrap Boot
The ‘wow’ factor of these boots is the wrap embellishment. They look great and are generally one of the taller styled boots. Wear them with skinny leg jeans and tuck into the boot to give the embellishment the proper attention that it deserves. These shoes are a perfect complement to hipster style, but if you want to avoid that, keep your wardrobe classic – playing with prints, but leaving the studded leather jackets for another day.

1. Vintage Shoe Co. “Isaac”
2. Aldo “TYRA”
3. Calvin Klein Jeans “Ellery”
4. Steve Madden “Ajax”

The Long Boot
These are great because they can be worn in the rain, are versatile in style, and they definitely make a statement. These boots can be worn with chinos, but work best with denim. The key is to go with a darker wash of denim if the boots are a lighter color – vice versa if the color is darker.

1. Vintage Shoe Co. “Elijah”
2. Wolverine “10” Wellington Work Book”
3. Hunter Boots “Renny”

The Black/Gray Boot
Black/Gray boots are everything – and always will be. Look to any kind of embellishment for inspiration when shopping. Gray looks good on a boot – any shade of black/gray that is. When wearing black/gray boots almost any color can work, but I would most certainly stay away from brown.

1. Mark Nason “Vessey”
2. Aldo “Otadan”
3. Aldo “Hubric”

1. Orientalism
This season, many designers are looking to the Orient for inspiration. From cuts to prints, fall looks are leaning towards an Eastern flare. Ralph Lauren, Zang Toi and Vivienne Tam were a few of the designers who showed us collections of old world, Orientalized looks that evoked beauty and opulence, fit for an empress. With Orientalism, bold red has popped up in the collections of many including BCBG Max Azria, Burberry Prorsum and Carlos Miele. Red will be an invigorating addition to your fall wardrobe, whether it is head to toe or just a dash, it is the color to make your style statement known. [From left to right: Zang Toi, Vivienne Tam, Ralph Lauren, Burberry Prorsum, Carlos Miele, BCBG Max Azria]

2. Seventies
Disco may be dead, but wide leg flare pants are coming back around. Paired with a platform heel, wide leg flares can do wonders for elongating your legs, not to mention create an undeniable elegance as you walk, full and flowing with every step.
3. Fur
Fur is back for another fall season and hopefully here to stay. Whether you go natural or faux, the look is luxurious and chic, not to mention cozy and warm. Coats, wraps, collars or cuffs, fur makes a fabulous statement on whatever fall style you choose. [From left to right: Gucci, Carlos Miele, Michael Kors, Prada, Custo Barcelona]

4. Leather
Sexy and chic, leather is everywhere from bags and boots to jackets, skirts and pants. It’s safe to say this season: if it can be made in leather, it exists. Natural, wearable and timeless, leather pieces make for great investment pieces in your wardrobe, not to mention add an instant badass factor to your outfit. [From left to right: Rudsak, Rolando Santana, Calvin Klein Collection (2), Michael Kors]

5. Feathers
Judging by fall’s runway trends, it appears the fashion industry has caught the bird flu – the good kind. Feathers make a theatrical statement in the collections of designers like Naeem Khan and Rolando Santana, adding beautiful elements of texture and movement to their looks. Light and airy, feathers are elegant, yet innocently youthful. It’s best to leave the full feather boa in the dress up chest, but don’t shy away from a little plumage this fall.
