After 27 glorious years, Fashion Television will be going off the air. Canada’s Bell Media has cut production on the weekly fashion TV series and with it ten jobs are being lost. According to the broadcaster, Fashion Television host and celebrated Canadian fashion commentator Jeanne Beker will continue on with Bell Media to report on fashion-related content.

Jeanne Beker tweeted, “So surreal. This dream is over: After 27 glorious years, FT production ceased today. So sad to see some of my closest colleagues move on… But life’s about change! We have to embrace that. NEW dreams now. Looking forward to working with Bellmedia + evolving the FT brand.”

It’s the end of an era for fashion commentary on TV. However, with high-paced shows like Project Runway, Top Model, Fashion Star and The Rachel Zoe Project, the market for a televised look into the world of fashion has become a glamorized, competitive field.

FT, we’ll miss you.

Fashion is about to invade Toronto for World MasterCard Fashion Week, March 12th to 16th, 2012. There is a fantastic lineup of design talent for the week, as well as an amazing closing show on Friday, March 16th, 2012. The Dare to Wear Love Fashion Show and Gala will add a philanthropic closing note to the week and a limited number of tickets are open to the public to partake in an evening filled with fashion and charitable giving. Tickets are $75 each ($300 for VIP) and can be purchased online here.

Proceeds from ticket sales will support the Stephen Lewis Foundation and its community-level organizations that work to improve the lives of women, orphans, grandmothers and people living with HIV and AIDS in Africa.

Talented Canadian designers including Brian Bailey, David Dixon, Adrian Wu, Paul Hardy, Linda Lundström, Pat McDonagh, Izzy Camilleri, Lida Baday, Greta Constantine, Lovas Wesley Badanjak, and many more, will create one-of-a-kind ensembles from six yards of African-made fabrics.

Celebrity models to walk the runway include Breakfast Television host Dina Pugliese; Fashion Television host Jeanne Beker; celebrity chef Jamie Kennedy; CityLine host Tracy Moore; ET Canada’s Angie Smith; actor Arlene Duncan (Little Mosque on the Prairie); Donisha Prendergrast, granddaughter of the great Bob Marley; and singer-songwriters Royal Wood and Sarah Slean.

In addition to the fashion, Stephen Lewis, chair of the board of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, will also be present to give some words of inspiration.

We’re very excited about the event and encourage our Toronto fashionistas and fashionistos to get involved! Because what’s better than great fashion for an even better cause?
