Ten designers, ten limited edition trench coats, one fashion fund… That is the second season of the ‘Americans in Paris’ initiative in a nutshell. On February 27, the Tommy Hilfiger Group announced their partnership with ten designers to support the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in its desire to help emerging American design talent find continued success in the fashion business.

Steven Kolb, Chief Executive Officer of the CFDA, is excited to bring the initiative back for a second season after a strong response from retailers and editors last September. Tommy Hilfiger, who knows from his own career how hard it is to break-through in the fashion world, is enthusiastic as well, saying: “I am proud to support the second season of ‘Americans in Paris’. My own experience at the beginning of my career inspired my commitment to mentor young designers. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to enter the fashion industry and I believe designers benefit from supporting and inspiring one another.”

The program has been very successful ever since its inception in 2003. It has granted a total of $2.3 million to twenty-one design companies, among them winners Alexander Wang, Rogan, Proenza Schouler and runners-up Prabal Gurung, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Derek Lam, Thakoon and many more familiar names.

As Paris Fashion Week attracts a wide array of international retailers, the ‘Americans in Paris’ showroom will provide invaluable global exposure for the emerging designers and raise the necessary support in sales, marketing and media to increase the success of their respective businesses.

The ten previous CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund designers that have been selected to participate in the shared space and limited edition collection this year are: Albertus Swanepoel, Billy Reid, Creatures of the Wind, George Esquivel, Gregory Parkinson, Monique Péan, Ohne Titel, Pamela Love, Prabal Gurung and Simon Spurr.

From leather sleeves and stud detailing to lace and hand died buttons; all designers gave a personal spin to a classic Tommy Hilfiger trench coat, recreating the piece in line with their own brand aesthetic. A total of 30 coats (three per designer) will be sold for $298 each in Tommy Hilfiger stores in NYC and Paris and will also be available on www.tommy.com. The full 100% of the net proceeds from sales will be donated to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.

See the limited edition coats of the ten ‘Americans in Paris’ designers below. Which one is your favorite?

It’s spring and the weather is warming, but it’s not quite hot enough to leave the house without a jacket just yet. Throw in those showers and thunderstorms that seem to be sticking around past their “April showers” welcome and you’re in need of a well-fitting trench coat.

Not to get confused with the flasher and, or Matrix cult set, be sure to choose a fitted trench that cuts above the knee – and after all, it’s spring. Montreal outerwear authority, Mackage makes a trench that fits the bill with its modern, tailored design. The Wade trench is lightweight and simple in its styling, with just enough flare to set you apart in the crowd. Military detailing adds structure to this water resistant trench available in three colors: khaki, black or camel. $620 at Mackage.com.
