Trend: G.I. Joe Inspired Military Spring Style

With the highly anticipated release of G.I. JOE: RETALIATION this past Wednesday, March 27, the action packed summer blockbuster has us excited to revive the military trend!

The military, army-chic trend entered the scene with many designers’ runways exploding with over-sized and exaggerated garments in olives, khakis, beige and tan hues. Of course, the most recognizable feature of this trend was its reintroduction to the camouflage print (and don’t forget to pair that with studs and spikes!)

Now that the trend has passed its emulation stage and has begun to over-saturate the market, military-wear serves as every fashionista’s go-to-look for those more relaxed days, but without sacrificing the chic!

We’ve put together two looks using both luxe and high-street brands to get you ready to rock the trend this spring and also as we transition out of fall.

We’re loving her dark grey Mavi floral print skinny jeans, which are an edgier take on the bright floral prints of last season.

She keeps her look effortless and cool by pairing the Mavi’s with an always on-trend trench coat, vintage-inspired sunnies, and a bold clutch. We’re always looking for new ways to bundle up during the colder months and this week Vanessa Hudgens put a unique spin on things! Spotted out and about in NYC, Vanessa kept things casual and cool rocking Aerie furry ear-muffs, knit scarf and pajama top. While most people tackle this trend from a more pajama-inspired angle, Vanessa took a literal approach to the trend and we’re totally into it. We’ve got some tips and tricks to help inspire even more ways to rock these super cozy pieces this season.

The obvious aim here is to avoid looking like you’ve had yourself a slept-through-the-alarm high school throwback moment, yet also keep the look cohesive. To give the outfit a bit of an edge we’d pair the pajama top with distressed denim and sporty-chic ankle booties. Combine those elements with perfectly executed bed-head inspired waves and dramatic, yet minimalistic make-up (think burgundy lips and clean eyes) and you’ll score a look that’s fashion forward and right on trend. Spring 2013 Fashion Trend Preview

It’s almost 2013, and before you know it, it will be spring time. We know, we know — where did the time go? Feburary will be quickly approaching, which means another round of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. Last September we saw some amazing trends come down the runway for Spring 2013. Instead of telling you all about them during September, we thought we’d tell you about it now, this way it’s fresh in your mind when you’re spending your holiday loot. This is the time to make those pennies count and get your closet SS13 ready! Check out some of our favorite trends, from some of your favorite editors below:

Cobalt Blue: Next season, we’re feeling blue, cobalt blue. Appearing in numerous collections of designers, including Tadashi Shoji, Carlos Miele, DKNY and Richard Chai, cobalt blue makes cool style statement. Whether you’re wearing it from head to toe or just as an accent, cobalt blue is the go to hue. (Alexander Liang, Editor-In-Chief)

Leather: Some may think leather in the hotter months is unorthodox. We, however, think it’s absolutely brilliant. Leather was incorporated into several garments that came down the runways in various ways and colors. Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Charlotte Ronson, J. Mendel, and Marc Jacobs are just a few of the many designers who had leather in their collections. This spring and summer, no matter the weather, pull on some leather! Bra Tops - Next spring get ready to wear your innerwear as outerwear as the Bra Top is one of the big trends we’ve seen coming down the runway at New York Fashion Week. Designers bracing the trend include DKNY, Jason Wu, Richard Chai, Victoria Beckham, and Calvin Kein. Pair these bra tops with a high waisted skirt or trouser for a chic spring look. The Future - It seems as though designers are looking to the future this season in prints, colors and fabrics. Designers like Carlos Campos and Karen Walker included stars and spaceship prints. Walker, along with Elizabeth and James included futuristic colors like copper in their collection. Richard Chai used futuristic and technical fabrics (i.e. a sheer polo) as did many other designers during the past week. Metallic Belts - With bold prints and the simple but chic black being hot for next Spring, add extra attention to your look with a sleek metallic belt. With Michael Kors and Reem Acra working this trend on the runways, its all about true metallics, not just the color. Not only does the belt focus attention to a sinched waist, it also adds structure to a season thats all about flowy fabrics. Trend Report: Winter White

A lot of fashion rules float around from time to time, but here at KENTON we’re more about challenging the rules as oppose to following them. Case in point: the needs-to-be-shelved notion that white isn’t to be worn after Labor Day. One of the chicest ways to step up your style game this winter is by sporting the formerly forbidden hue. It’s less expected than the usual shades of black and grey and can have a softer, more romantic feel. However, you can still give your look an unexpected edge by incorporating some leather, sheer cut-outs, or metallic embellishments.

In being a neutral, the shade boasts great versatility with pieces being easily dressed-up or down according to your style needs. Summer mini-dresses can be given an instant Parisian-chic vibe with textured tights and heels, while structured blazers can be paired with casual trousers for an effortlessly cool look. Whether you’re ready to dive-in head-to-toe or are looking to incorporate just a few pieces at a time, there are a ton of great options!
