The last show in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents this season, Vivienne Tam brought a full house to The Stage one last time. The fall 2012 collection was titled “Shangri-La Remix” and was there ever harmony, mystery and intrigue at work on the runway.

Red, maroon and plum brought a cool richness to the color palette, which also included teal, tan and camel, with highlights of gold. Textiles were luxurious; leather, tweed, ombre wool and a faux Mongolian goat hair. Oriental prints were reimagined and dragon motifs appeared to be a nod to the current Zodiac Year of the Dragon.

The silhouettes were modern with a retro vibe, glam with an edge. Wide leg trousers were paired with large overcoats and skirt hemline was dropped to just about the knee. Elements of menswear tailoring were apparent in many of the looks that featured blazers, button down shirts and pressed pants.

Vivienne Tam’s collection looks nothing like any other designer who showed at New York Fashion Week and that’s what makes this show so special. She is a unique designer and her fall 2012 collection was one of the best we were privileged to witness this season. Vivienne Tam strived to create Shangri-La and all we can say is: Paradise found.
