YMC Spring 2013
You Must Create is YMC’s abbreviated name deconstructed. And for a spring collection, Fraser Moss did precisely that. Playing with British culture and the ‘chav check’ for his opening looks, moving slowly in to care-free holiday prints, in to the daring leopard print looks, the collection encompassed the modern age whilst referencing previous decades and eras. The Hawaiian/surf prints were unique in that they were far from gaudy, and emphasized and made fun of the the tourist Hawaiian shirt fad, by being inextricably stylish and cool. The check encompassed the ideal of the Brit cult of the chav, but turned the garish check in to one that was wearable, tolerable, and unique. The understated color palette was accentuated by the timeless shapes and tailoring, whilst the leopard print pieces showed how fun the brand was capable of being. A sartorially inspired collection, YMC has convinced this editor that he wants, nay, NEEDS a leopard print parka next summer.
